Part of that was achieved by offering customers the ability to buy and sell Bitcoin on the platform. Since then, the company has raised over $70M and slowly but surely turned in the direction of social payments. Find competitive prices on Bitcoin, Dogecoin, Ethereum, Litecoin, Bitcoin Cash, XRP, ApeCoin and all major stablecoins. Buy with a credit card or existing funds, then seamlessly swap coins at competitive rates without leaving the app. The question is now will customers use Circle’s payment-based messaging platform over more established alternatives like Messenger and WeChat, both of which support payments.

When I arrived at the ATM, it gave me an option to buy and sell Litecoin, Ethereum and bitcoin. Since I was here for bitcoin, I selected that option. From there, I had to create an account, which I was able to do directly at the ATM. Circle K recently deployed cryptocurrency ATMs that offer Ethereum and Litecoin in addition to bitcoin. Here’s what a user experienced buying bitcoin from one of the machines.
Instead, they intent to double down on mobile payments. Instantly purchase store credit and spend it at dozens of major retailers. Looking at a comparable example – the Coinbase IPO – the price came down after the hype of the listing faded. This could happen when Circle lists, or the price could climb higher if the market sentiment is bullish. This means prospective investors need to determine if buying at the IPO is wise, or if waiting until later makes more sense. To complete the purchase, I put in cash into the ATM.
Circle removes ability to buy and sell Bitcoin as it doubles down on mobile payments
Circle was the first company to receive New York’s notoriously difficult-to-obtain BitLicense. They now have business partnerships with companies including Coinbase, BNY Mellon, Signature Bank, Visa, Mastercard, and Plaid. If Circle sounds like a company you would like to have in your portfolio, their investor presentation can be read in full here, and their prior SEC filing can be read in full here. There was only one SPAC IPO in 2009, this grew to over 50 by 2019 raising $13B, and 2020 saw 248 SPAC IPOs raise more than $80B.
This particular ATM only accepted cash as payment. Upon completing the process, the bitcoin arrived in my wallet within a few hours. Last year, I looked at LibertyX’s Bitcoin ATM, which allowed customers to purchase bitcoin with a debit card. Now I will be reviewing Bitcoin Depot’s bitcoin ATM, which I tried out at a local Circle K. Circle is also announcing a partnership with Coinbase – essentially they are just directing all of their current customers to Coinbase who want to continue buying and selling Bitcoin. Customers who currently hold Bitcoin in their Circle account can still hold it insured – or sell it for other currencies via the Circle app – but not back to Bitcoin.

It seems that the company is hedging its bets on Bitcoin by building protocols that could still exist in case Bitcoin’s popularity decreases to the point where using its Blockchain becomes unsustainable. Use multi-factor wallets to split payment authorization across up to 12 devices or trusted copayers for enhanced security. Secure assets with multi-sig and optional key encryption in BitPay’s non-custodial wallet. Pay with crypto and buy gift cards straight from your wallet.
First off, there is absolutely zero app support, it takes like a month to get an email back from support, and then days to actually get an answer to your question, let alone an actual resolution. But, my biggest issue by far is that their price for ETC is way off, for at least 48 hours now! ETC reached $35 per coin, and now I want to sell, but Circle Invest is listing it at $29 despite every other app and exchange having the correct prices listed, just over $35.

After getting all this set up, I had to scan the QR code for my bitcoin wallet and then select the amount of bitcoin I wished to purchase. For this ATM, I did have to pay a fee, but that is to be expected from most bitcoin ATMs. To do this Circle is launching a protocol called Spark, which lets digital wallets exchange value using blockchains.
Overall, I would rank the experience as easy and intuitive. It was a plus to not have to download another app to use the machine. I would recommend the service to cash users who want to get into bitcoin, but I would also warn them to keep the fee in mind when making purchases. But today the company is fully cutting support for buying and selling Bitcoin via their platform.

I’ve been emailing both circle support and Voyager, who’s supposedly purchased the company, but no answers from either, nor amy of their Twitter support accts. This app has my money and won’t give it to me unless I accept a $7 less per coin price, which is absolutely robbery!! This app also won’t let you access your own coins, that you’ve purchased with your own money. I’d stay away from this app if they didn’t already have over a thousand dollars of mine!! Use a crypto exchange that actually lets you access your coins.
